ABOUT ME

Niharika Kasturi

Leader, Educator, Researcher, Entrepreneur

My journey began during my pursuit of Bachelors in Technology where I was introduced to the academics of dance. As an avid reader and researcher, I got intrigued with the idea of reading and writing in dance. The following years went in deep diving into this world and finding my areas of interest. My background as a Bharatanatyam dancer with more than 12 years of learning, and my writings led me to pursue my master's in Dance Research from the University of Chichester.

I wear multiple hats including that of a leader, educator, researcher and entrepreneur. My recent venture, Naatya Mandalam focusses on building awareness towards the scope of arts in the field of education and the various professional opportunities that arts creates.

I am currently in the role of a Teaching and Learning Lead and a dance educator in one of the reputed schools in Delhi, NCR. My background and interest in pedagogy enables me to employ S.M.A.R.T. techniques for teaching the arts within a K-12 classroom setting. My recent publication in Journal of Dance Education (JODER) titled "Learning on the Go: The Journey of a Dance Educator in a K-12 Space in India" serves as an initial exploration of culturally relevant teaching practices that may assist dance educators in India.

I am also engaged in designing interdisciplinary curricula for grades one through eight, focussing on pedagogical concepts that allow for a comprehensive exploration of dance.

As a dancer, I recognise that the body is capable of a wide range of movements that often extend beyond the confines of traditional dance forms. Consequently, my teaching approach incorporates Creative Movement, a genre that merges movement and artistic expression that focuses on empowering students to be confident and comfortable with movement and does not require specialised training.
