MY EDUCATOR PROFILE

As the Lead - Teaching and Learning - Arts, I have collaborated with educators and the institution to support the empowerment of the broader community. I have worked closely with leadership to contribute to the ten-year visioning exercise for the institution. Additionally, I have organised and conducted professional development workshops and sessions at the school level on a variety of topics and themes, including Understanding Assessments, Types of Formative Assessments, the Role of Assessments in Curriculum Design, VTRs, Designing Simple and Effective AIL Sessions, Team Building, the Seven Principles of Curriculum Design, Teacher Language for Classrooms, and Decoding Effective Unit Planning, among others.

Major Accomplishments

My journey as an educator has been distinctly unconventional. With a background in research and writing, I transitioned into the field of education as a performing arts facilitator. Since that time, I have significantly contributed to the establishment of various structures within the arts sector. This includes the creation of vertical progression documents and the streamlining of assessments for both integrated arts classes and specialised programs. I have also sought opportunities to upskill myself and have constantly tried to evolve with the growing needs of the institution and the education sector.

Additionally, I have identified training needs for educators, organised and conducted professional development training sessions, and implemented teacher assessments to monitor professional growth. I have also designed personalised learning plans tailored to meet the specific needs of individual educators and coached them for a specific duration.

One of my most notable achievements has been the successful execution of an arts review focused on curriculum development. In this role, I designed the rubrics for evaluation, coordinated the collation of evidence, and conducted thorough reviews in alignment with the established criteria.

Current Works

My current work involves establishing frameworks to facilitate the successful implementation of the recommendations derived from the arts review, with a focus on prioritising student learning and teacher motivation. I am in the process of designing a comprehensive Professional Development Calendar for the upcoming year, which aligns with the expectations of both the educators and the institution. The objective of this calendar is to identify relevant professional development opportunities, ensure maximum participation, and empower every educator.

Furthermore, it is essential that all initiatives undertaken by my team are documented and communicated to all stakeholders to enhance visibility and awareness. In support of this objective, a colleague and I have collaboratively developed an arts newsletter that will be published and distributed each term.

Through a thorough analysis of our current structures and processes, employing a "start, stop, continue" framework, our team aims to optimise productivity by minimizing task redundancy.
